Cold Coffee Again.

I've been drinking cold coffee for the past 2 months now.  It's great.  I feel I've perfected my method and am willing to share.

If you are pressed for time, making a good cup of coffee is difficult.  Waiting for the water to boil, then brewing it, then it seems you have to wait minutes for the coffee to go into your stomach without burning your face. Usually its 12 minutes if you are fast, slow, it could take hours.  Plus, how hard is it to grind you coffee and heat the water and brew it when you just woke up?

When I first considered the cold method, I was more concerned about my carbon footprint vs. taste or level of difficulty.  Now I'm finding it is way more easy and convenient.

Here are the steps.

1. Drink your coffee.
2. Clean you coffee press.
3. Make your coffee.
4. Put it in the fridge.
5. Wait till next morning.
6. Put ice in clean glass.
7. Fill glass with coffee.
8. Add milk if you like.
9. Drink your coffee.

See, you wake up, drink your coffee, then you make it for the next morning.  Some say a 12 hour brew is good, some say a 24 hour brew is good, some say in between those numbers is good. I usually do 24hour, just because it's convenient.

Here are the steps to making the coffee.

1. Fill your press 5/6 full with filtered clean water.
2.  Grind your coffee beans and dump the grounds into the wather. (they should sit on top of the water slowly getting saturated as their weight pushes them under water.  Don't stir or press them under water).
3.  Cover the coffee.
4. Put in fridge.

PS:You can do the same thing with tea.
1. Put tea leaves or bag in lukewarm warter.
2. Wait 12-24 hours in the fridge.
3. Filter out the leaves and drink.

Using the tea with smoothies is good too.  Instead of adding orange juice, I add cold tea, then put in some scoopes of frozen concentrate orange juice.

  1. I do basically the same thing, 24 hours works well. I stir it once before leaving it to brew, though.

What ratio of coffee to water do you use? I use 4:1 by weight water/coffee. This produces a more concentrated coffee that can be cut with water (or the ice) when it comes time to drink it.

In a pinch, if I haven't made any ahead of time, I will make some espresso and cool it in an ice bath. It only takes about 10 mins to get it cool enough to use.
