Great article about tires here.
They say that 25mm tires actually have less rolling resistance than 23's. Also proved quite a few points that people already new, like latex tubes lowering resistance by 10%. For flat crits, I might be riding 25's, but at least 23's. I've actually always have raced 21's, especially for road races, but crits might be different this year. Driving a 90 degree corner rocking 25s at 35mph and 75psi sounds like fun.
Many people say that tubulars "feel" better than clinchers. I've always believed that high quality tubulars feel better than low quality clinchers myself. But if you want to compare a 200gram 320tpi corsa cx open clincher with latex tube to a similar tubular, the "feel" will be the same. You'll just be riding a rim that is lighter.
I'm not saying don't ride tubulars, I'm saying don't feel like someone has the advantage if they are and your not. I will probably be rocking 50mm tubular wheels that weigh 1100 grams and cost $700 this year with corsa cx/cs or mavic tubular tires.
You could just as easily ride a nice clincher wheel, maybe stan's alpha or velocity a23 rims, with 20/24 velocity race hubs, for half the price almost.
