I have been barely riding lately. My plan was to do 1 big ride a week for a month or so. I was reading bicycle magazine and carmichael says I need to be riding much more to get a good endurance block. 3 days in a row of plus 3 hour days is a lot. He mentions taking some time off work to do the job.
If you are training primarily for one hour cyclocross races, I don't think you need to have the endurance for 3-5 hour rides. You could probably do half as many hours with 2-3 interval sessions per week.
