I won both the Single Speed and the Open for Series 60. Series 60 is a great thing we have in kc. It brings together a lot of people in a way that the races could not if they were by themselves.
The last race of series 60, grote prijs, was awesome. Lots of racers showed up, there were 2 kegs of blvd and lots of food. The location was good too, close parking and in the town of shawnee, kind of had a good community feel to it.
The course at grote prijs was really fun for the ss race. Lots of mini power sections and some tight turning going on. Some pics here. It was definitely one of those courses where your first lap was almost as slow as your last lap. It was hard to just haul through the course with so many sections where you could fall easily. I won it.
In the open race, a few sections got really icy, due to the snow/ice unthawing and then freezing again in a matter of minutes. I crashed on the backside of the "slide." It was my favorite section during the ss race but turned hazardous during the open. I had sold my blue, so I raced my pake in the open race, I just needed to finish and thats what I did, just cruised around after a hard lap and finished.
Turns out, if anyone would have shown up and finished every race in the open, they would have won the series. I did miss a few, and I did get some good placings, even a win, but it kind of feels stolen, well, I didn't really steal anything, I got a set of grifo 34mm tires for winning the thing. In hindsight, I could have skipped every series 60 race, stayed warm, and just raced the boxing cat 3 race with the same outcome, grifo 34s. I did have more fun racing though.
