Pedaling and Racing.

There are three types of Pedaling. You pedal hard, or pedal smart, or both. Watch all the pros in europe race cx, watch their pedaling in slowmo, its perfect.

There are plenty of times when I get lazy and do not pedal right, it actually took me a few years of riding clipped in to totally understand how to be powerful and efficient. This took probably 2000 miles riding a fixed gear, eventually your leg muscles get tired and you start using your ankle, you gotta move your ankle and power down to be efficient. I still find myself mashing along, especially in the first lap of every elite race. Its hard, you pedal the whole time, break into a corner, stand up and sprint out of the saddle to keep up, you keep doing this, then the elasticity breaks on everyone, and its time to get efficient. Its is crazy hard to pedal this hard, this efficient. Its not a gift, or talent, you simply accept the pain or you go slower. I realized this racing at epic cross. It was super flat with a few sections where you really had to pedal to keep up.

Once you get the pedaling down, its even harder to try and keep a good stroke during base miles. Yes, its easy to pedal well when you are going 85-90%, but at 50% its super hard to pedal and feel 100% momentum into the cranks when your body is only putting out 50.

2011 calender posted by kca click here. Perry Roubaix sounds exciting...word is 15-20 mile loops, 3 miles or so of gravel, ends on the uphill finish that the dam race ends on.
