Monday's

1. Mondays seem to always be a hangover for me. My legs are gone, my head/back hurts and when I get to the store there is trash everywhere from the busy weekend.

2. I thought about organizing a Royals ride, maybe meet somewhere in midtown and ride straight east to the K, where we watch a game. Monday's are $5 nights now...pretty good deal plus you don't have to pay to park. Weather this good only lasts so long, and so does the Royals season. Can't do it tonight though.

3. Painting the wooden Deck/Patio tonight, I have an extra brush if anyone is thirsty.

4. Going to build up my road bike again, try and savor what remains of a long road season, I have Sedalia, then the last 2 days of Gateway.

Cross Practice

The last few days have been a blast cruising around on public grass. We are slowly getting more and more riders on knobbies every night. Tonight there were 4, and for rain I don't think that is bad.

Tomorrow we'll go again, there should at least 6 of us cruising around off camber hills, practicing sprints, starts, and dismounting.

I'm loving this supernova, it is clearly the best cx bike out there for the money. I can sell them for $2100 now(retail is $2575), if you want one, let me know.

Cross

Went down to SE Kansas to visit the folks and get baby presents. I got to do some riding at the trails by Elk Lake, all the doubletrack hadn't been mowed this year so I gave up and just road single track for an hour or so.

Today I spent time on starts and mounts. Melissa parents have a long gravel drive way that is about 2k long uphill. There was a nice tailwind and after 10 starts I was cooked so I spent the rest of the time working on mounts.

I started off doing everything in slow motion. I was definitely out of practice and couldn't get on and off as fast with my bike going slow so when I started going at race speed everything came back pretty quick. Still need more practice though.

Pics of the cross bike for now. Weighs in at 17lbs. Those are ztr 355 29er rims to 32h king hubs. I ran 30 psi for 2 hours no problem.

It probably will be my pit bike or someone else's bike, I've got some columbus pipes in a box I need to start putting together.

Cross Videos

I've lost 5-6 lbs since July 4th. Wahoooo!

I've watched the following Cross movies and here is how they rank.

1. 9 ball diaries. (Great interviews and race shots. All american races.)

2. ACross the Pond. (Very good. Its about the camp in Belgium from Dec. 22 through Jan 2nd. Very good race coverage, great interviews, I would probably rank it #1 if it didn't have so much bs of just dudes sitting around wrestling/videos games/such.)

3. Cyclofiles #2. (Lots of racing. All in America. Hardly any interviews.)

I have all 3 of these, if you would like to borrow one, email volkerbicycles@gmail.com. I'll keep them at the store for now.

Tour of KC

1. Felt fine during the kck crit. It was my first race in over a month and I was a little loopy and lacked focus. With 2 to go I was stuck 20 riders back and managed to get up to around 7th position with 1 to go. In the last turn I got cut and lost some momentum. Still got at least top 12, though the results don't show it. I didn't check results or protest anything, should have, but didn't.

2. Some dude dropped his chain going up the first hill, so he fixed his chain, turned around and went to the judges for a free lap but they didn't give it to him, he was upset, I guess it is more of a funny story when Melissa tells it. She has plenty of funny stories now that she does the scoring for races.

3. I haven't crashed in over a year. In fact the last time (and very first time) I crashed in a race was last year at the OPGP. I felt fine sitting in the whole race, it seemed fast but I think I was out of racing shape. With 2 to go I moved up and was placed well in the top 10, then on the 3rd corner I crashed while trying to avoid another crash. Adam Miller won it, he is smoking fast and it is his first year racing. Crazy!

4. Cross bike should be built this week. Still planning on racing the sedalia crit and maybe even gateway.

5. Thanks to good friend Joe we have moved into our old house. Still a lot of work left scraping, painting, bathroom remodeling and cleaning to get the Holmes has sold. Anyone need a house?

TV

1. Tried riding mtn. bikes today but it was too slick, ended up doing
some hill intervals in swope park area on the road. The Swope Trails
are coming along beautifully and phase 2 is now open. Hopefully we'll
get out to the thursday ride to there with the cx bikes soon.

2. Built up a few team bikes for CX. Wish I had pics, they are pretty
sweet. Pake C'mute with Reynolds fork and 2010 force/open pros
tubeless with hutch tires. Soma prestige steel frame was the other
wtih trp brakes, da10 shifters, and ea70 fork.

3. Built up my cross wheels too. King cross hubs (high flange) with
sapim lazer spokes, and ztr 355 32h rims. Complete weight is 1550
grams, not bad for bomb proof and super tubeless.

4 .Still don't know what frame I will ride for cross, guess I'll wait
and see what develops, 29er ss is good for now, definitely need
something by the time September rolls in.

5. I'm missing the show of my favorite band in the world. as I write this. Damiera, a
band formed by the front man of League, Dave, came into Volker looking
for a 17 degree stem. I guess my new lifestyle with the pregnant
wife/groceries/stuff/stuff/stuff/stuff to do puts my favorite band in
the back seat. I really haven't followed any other band in over 4
years. Ever since I really got into bikes, I quit, maybe I'll get
back into it, who knows.

6. Got hit by a car on 71/gregory on thursday. Lady ran a red and
tried turning and ran straight into me. wheels, frame, fork are
damaged as well as my back/shoulders/elbow. I can still ride, it just hurts a little more than it used to. Sorry David, looks like we have to look for a different bike for next season.

7. New jerseys are being ordered for cross, they will be cool.

8. Still stuck at 164lbs. It is hard losing weight.

9. If you're interested in what the 2010 jamis line looks like, email me what model you are interested and I'll send you pic and price.
2010 Jamis D29 Team Full Carbon 29er $5475
