New Season, New Bike
Sadly, you will not be seeing me riding a yellow Pinarello this season. An xenith SL is on its' way to Volker bicycles. It is 2008 model with the threaded bb instead of the bb30 that they converted to for 09. Hopefully, you will be looking at a 12lb. bike by race season!
The frame is already 900 grams, then add
slx fork
zg brakes
red shifters/deraileurs
dv46 ul Reynolds tubulars (1040 grams)
You get the picture...

4th Place

Shawnee Grote Prij Race (1-11-09) Great course designed by Mark Thomas at Herman Laird Park...great mud sections, challenging off camber turns, fast barriers, and killer pavement sections. BLVD. Beer blessed us with both the Double Wide IPA and their Saison....thanks Joe-Parker!
Melissa took 4th in women's 4
Britton took 4th in 3/4
See you at Swope in September!!! Can't Wait!

Happy New Year 2009!
2008 has been a great year for Melissa and I. After spending this year reading the blogs of racers across the KC metro area, I thought I would return the favor and share our experiences. I spent this season racing for KCOI/Boulevard for both road and cross events...reached the podium a few times, won a few cross races, and had a blast...it is always great to end the season with cross!
After spending 2 years racing, and running a bike shop for a year, we have decided to start a new cycling team for the 2009 road season.
Team Colavita/Parisi Coffee!
Both sponsors are helping us through our bike shop, Volker Bicycles, to put a new spin on urban cyclists looking for a way to get into racing. Over the past few years, we have noticed the difficulty in getting started in racing. We see racers show up, unattached, with a plain jersey, and race. If they turn some heads, maybe someone from a team will show some support and reach out their hand, if not, they end up hanging up the bike or just using as a way to stay in shape, instead of joining the racing community. We hope to change the culture, especially in Kansas City!
Another sponsor that will be helping out the racing team is Cellar Rat Wine Merchants. It is a great wine store on 18th and Baltimore with as much passion for wine and fine liquor as we do for bikes. There wine tasting events are great too. Check them out at www.cellarratwine.com.
